Rams Women into Division One

Division 1 for Rams Women

Newport Baseball Club recently announced a major milestone for our club, the establishment of our women's program. We can now confirm that NBC has been approved to enter a team into the Women's Division 1 competition from 2020. It is hoped we will also be entering a second team to create a pathway for our young players coming up through our junior program, so the recruiting call is now in full swing to increase our numbers for two teams.

Long time Rams member Leslie Anglin will officially play women’s baseball for the Rams for the first time this season, she is joined by Australian Emeralds teammate Morgan Doty, who will play both men’s and women’s at the Rams. Anglin and Doty join Bronwyn Gell in leading our women’s program along with other current and former Victorian representative players who are also joining the Rams.  With these three leading the way, the club feels we have the foundations for a competitive team as we head towards the season starting in early December. “it was important to establish a team with a solid foundation and to get us off to a competitive start“ women’s Head Coach Dean Anglin said. “These three players will be exceptional mentors for our younger players coming through, all three have great work ethic and have proven themselves at the highest level.”

“Our aim now is to build on those numbers and establish a sustainable program for our junior girls to aspire to be part of. The fact that we have not had a stand alone program for many years has meant we have lost a lot of talent to other clubs, now we can provide that pathway for young girls to remain with the Rams after that finish juniors”.

With our first team now entered into Division 1 for 2020/2021, we are close to adding an additional team to make sure we have a place for everyone to play. Baseball Victoria has given the Rams until the 10th of November to confirm a second team. To register your interest complete the form below.
