MEN’S ONES (Midweek) modified from Game Changer

Our ones had a tough time generating runs on Thursday, dropping their game with Moorabbin 6-0. A single by Connor SCHIBECI in the first inning was a positive for the boys, but the hit illuded us for much of the game. Mike McGillvray earned the victory on the hill for Moorabbin, throwing five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out four.

Harun Pelja in his first Ones appearance, allowed two hits and five runs over two and a third innings, striking out two. Multiple back to back walks, followed by timely hitting propelled Moorabbin to the win.

Keenan SPENCE and SCHIBECI each managed one hit. Defensively our boys were good in the field, not committing a single error.

MEN’S TWOS written by David Land

Conditions were unfamiliar and tough for the 2s vs. Mulgrave. With the wind blowing out we shuffled the lineup to put some speed in the outfield and some guys in unfamiliar positions. Credit to all for being willing team players. Patience was the order of the day with Rebels pitching struggling to find consistency. Our guys were selective but aggressive with the bats. With some great knocks from Tyler, Gerks and Ninnis amongst others. Our pitchers threw strikes and were willing to challenge which was pleasing. With only 1 walk from Mason, Steve and Gerks, our defense was always challenged to make the plays. Aaron Robson making a couple of tough plays at short and Big Dave Ninnis making a key diving catch in left. Most pleasing is how the guys are pulling together and being great teammates. We are all looking forward to the next challenge.

All the girls started off strong despite first game nerves. We were first to bat with getting 6 on base and 5 home. Let’s not forget Narelle taking one for the team, running into Geelong’s 1st base player like a champ. We then took to the field with Mackenzie pitching. Her pitches were hard and fast with Geelong struggling to hit them. We were up 5/3!

2nd innings was a close one. We only got 1 home thanks to Nikky’s sliding prowess. Beck was up to pitch for her first time ever, having a great go at it, with Ildi then subbing in. We were up 6/5. 3rd innings we had 3 hits and 3 homes. Unfortunately we let Geelong get 7 runs which brought the score 12/9 down. By the 4th innings we were all pumped up again and ready to fight. We got 6 home and we fielded like a team who had played together for a while. We shut out the Geelong hitters with not allowing them any runs to win 15/12.

Overall a great first game with lots of hits, awesome stealing and promising fielding.

What a way to start a season! A 7 inning thriller in the 3rds today, With a final score of 6-2. A lead off double from hammy started things off in the 4th followed by a Sam Fraser single, and stolen base then first timer Kevin Johnson with a booming ground rule double and just like that we were 2-0 up! Sam Fraser then busts the game open with a grand slam in the bottom of the 6th! Good defence today kept us in the game and a solid 7 inning outing from hammy led the way! Thanks to Noah and tony for doubling up today and also Troy for playing 2 games after Matty Murphy bunted a ball into his face and was forced to sit the game out. Hoping Matty a speedy recovery! Bring on next week

MEN’S FOURS written by Sam Aldenhoven

A much different 4s took the field today to open the summer season with a 12-4 win. With an average age being close to 20 instead of 50 for the first time in at least a decade the boys were able to play the full game out and not tire. A great start from Noah put us in a good position to see the game out with Sean come in to close iit out. A solid performance in the field allowed us to limit the amounts of runs scored. Everyone contributed with putting the ball in play with at least 2 of there at bats for the game which gave us ample opportunity to score runs. Well done boys let get out there next week and get another W

MEN’S FIFTHS written by Roland Stott

5s played Essendon Jets at home. Brian Anderson was in fine form on the mound with 5 stikeouts in the first 2 innings, while shuting the Jets out. Only a couple of errors and let the Jets score 3 in the 3rd. 5s were if good form with the bat scoring 1, 7, 3 and 3 in the first 4 innings. Which was enough for a 14-3 win with the 10 run rule after 5 innings. Mace Poole pitched 2 good shutout inning in relief, which was helped by him picking of 2 runners at first trying to steal ( though there was just enough left in my decrepid arm to get the ball to the shortshort for the outs. Brayyd Turner in his first ever game of baseball, got line drive hits to left field in his first 2 plate appearances and an outfield assist forcing the runner out at 2nd. (Ok the runner on 1st touch up on ball that was never going to be caught and it was 2 out. it happens in the 5s) There were plenty of contributers with the bat as 17 hits, including 4 doubles were recorded. Dean Edwards-Lear was the best with 3 hits including a double.
