Rams 4 lost to Essendon 13
Div 1 women had a big challenge for the first game back after the break, coming up against Essendon (top of the ladder) and without a full strength team.
New to the sport, Nikky Hogan, stepped up to the challenge playing only her 3rd game of baseball EVER and debut game in division one. Fitting right in, Nikky got herself her first division one hit, alongside Zoe Allen and Holly Howard. Exceptional defence from Kira Jansen at third base and Claire Costa behind the dish meant we were able to slow Essendon's scoring and play the full 7 innings.
Thanks to Danni for stepping up and throwing 2.1 innings on the hill. Danni gave the girls an opportunity to get back into the game. Unfortunately, we did not score enough runs to beat Essendon.
Special mentions to Morgan Doty's head first dive in centre field, Bronwyn Gell's bases loaded triple, and Laura Sexton's versatility and leadership in the field.
Div 1 women will come up against Essendon again this weekend at home.

Rams 15 defeat Doncaster 3
The 2s bounced back from a tough game against Moorabbin with a comprehensive win against Doncaster. With 4 runs in the top of the first, the Dragons pitchers were pitching uphill for the rest of the game. Our offense did not let up all game, which is a real step up and a great sign moving forward. The way our guys built at bats and adjusted was pleasing. The aggressive baserunning we've been needing was also a highlight with guys stealing in appropriate situations and for looking for extra bases whenever on base. Contributions came from the entire line-up offensively and it was particularly pleasing to see Trenell be rewarded for effort with 2 knocks from his 2 at bats. Unfortunately, his hamstring has struck again and he will miss 1 or 2 games.
Pitching wise, Harun took another stride forward. After a shaky first he locked in and really impressed in the second. Making some big pitches and showing signs of dominant stuff. Mason Condie showed the value of locating and mixing speeds as he gave us another reliable and steady outing. Zac Gorman worked hard behind the dish and had some quality at bats. He is showing signs of trusting his swing which when he is aggressive can be damaging.
Big thanks to Leslie Anglin for stepping in for the injured Trenell. Her experience meant our defence remained solid and our offence holeless. Dean Anglin provided on field leadership and at times, coaching, which can only be valuable for our younger players.
We look forward to our next challenge of improving ourselves regardless of the opposition we're playing.

Rams 2 lost to Fitzroy 14
Round 4 saw the Newport Div3 team take on Fitzroy who were ahead of Newport, only by % on the ladder.
Caroline Mourtous got her first start for the year throwing 2 innings/3 strike outs/ 2 infield hits. Mackenzie Prentice-Evans in relief threw 2.2 impressive innings/ 2 strike outs and Ildi Klein closed out striking out every batter she threw to. Mikayla Norman was enormous behind the dish with a courageous game.
2 hits to Mikayla and 1 hit to Prue and Caroline Mourtous. The 14-2 score line does not do justice to the even contest as Newport left bases loaded twice and had an unfortunate infield fly double play go against us in another innings.
As the new coach I was super impressed with the attitudes of the Newport women players and look forward to next week.

4s secure a 6-4 win off the back of winning appearance on the mound by Noah D'Arcy with 3 2/3 inning for 4 runs and then a great closing inning and a third by Joel Bernoth to keep Doncaster at bay and secure Newport the win. The whole team was aggressive with the bat with a stand out performance with 2 doubles out of 3 at bats.
