Spence heads to Texas Tech

The Newport Rams are extremely proud to announce that Keenan Spence has accepted an offer to continue his baseball journey at Texas Tech University.

Keenan is an extremely hard working, talented baseballer. He broke into the Div 1 senior team as a 14 year old and has showcased his skills at that level on a consistent basis ever since.

He has represented Victoria at u16 and u18 level and this year saw game time with the Melbourne Aces at ABL level.

Despite missing the entire 2018/19 season due to injury he has not missed a beat since returning to the game for the 2019/20 season.

Keenan is incredibly excited about his next baseball adventure and has said “thank you to the people at Newport Baseball Club for their support and always being behind me. I’d like to send a special thanks to Mark Jowett, who has been my junior coach since I was 12 years old, for the extra effort he’d always put in to ensure we were at our best.

And finally, thank you to all my teammates that I have played with throughout the years who have made the game competitive and enjoyable.”

For his part, Mark Jowett said he is “pumped for Keenan. He has been a tremendous role model and leader for his team mates and all the younger kids that are looking to follow in his footsteps. From day one his love for the game, work ethic and passion has been a joy to watch. I have every confidence that he with make the most of his college opportunities.”

We wish you all the very best Keenan. We are looking forward to following your journey with great interest.
